Réjean Savard nous invite à signer une pétition afin de sauver les manuscrits de Tombouctou. En effet, M. Savard, professeur à l’École de bibliothéconomie et des sciences de l’information (EBSI) de l’Université de Montréal et président du conseil de l’Association internationale francophone des bibliothécaires et documentalistes, indique dans un courriel via la liste EBSI-L :
Comme vous le savez, le nord du Mali est présentement occupé par des rebelles. Je vous invite à signer la pétition mise en ligne pour appuyer la sauvegarde des manuscrits de Tombouctou:

Notre collègue Lamine Camara avait justement fait une présentation sur ce sujet au dernier congrès de l’AIFBD dont les textes seront publiés sous peu.

La Commission européenne annonce la publication d’une communication concernant son intention de traiter des questions de conservation et diffusion numériques, d’œuvres orphelines ainsi que d’accès pour les personnes souffrant d’un handicap.
Cette communication donne suite au livre vert publié sur la question du droit d’auteur l’an dernier.

L’hebdomadaire britannique The Economist (5 mars 2009) nous offre un article à propos de Brewster Kahle. Ayant fait sa fortune dans les technologies de l’information, il se lance dans la préservation du matériel culturel numérique, bien avant la création de Google.
À son actif, nous comptons www.archive.org, un dépôt d’oeuvres culturelles dans le domaine public ou non, et openlibrary.org, un catalogue qui tente de recenser tous les livres publiés et des liens vers la version en accès libre autant que possible.
Visoinnaire et humaniste, la vision de Mr Kahle est réellement celle d’un bibliothécaire du 21e siècle.
