L’édition de Mars 2007 de College and Research Library (C&RL) News, un mensuel d’information de la division éponyme de l’American Library Association, propose une webographie des ressources pertinentes pour le droit d’auteur aux USA.

L’UNESCO annonce la publication d’une étude concernant les considérations éthiques des nouvelles technologies (en anglais), dans le cadre de son programme information pour tous (PIPT).

Professeur Vincent Gautrais, spécialisé en commerce électronique à la Faculté de Droit de l’Université de Montréal, nous propose une bibliographie sur le droit d’auteur dans son carnet.

Une étude sur les médias aux USA, spectaculaire de par sa portée, est lancée dans Internet par un groupe de chercheurs américains. Voici le contenu :

Selon une enquête IPSOS, un canadien sur trois se dit au moins comfortable avec les technologies d’Interent tandis qu’un sur quatre serait complètement dépassé. En effet,

Only a small number of Canadians consider themselves to be an expert with technology despite the significant role technology plays in today’s society. Specifically, when it comes to experience with the Internet, only one-in-three Canadians claim to be an expert or very skilled (32%), four-in-ten say they are fairly skilled (43%), and one-in-four feel they are not very or not at all skilled (25%). Even with the rate at which technology is evolving and consumers are adopting technology, the percentage of Canadians who view themselves as expert or very skilled with the Internet has increased only marginally by 5% (from 27%) since 2001.

Results are even less optimistic for technology in general. Only one-in-five view themselves as an expert or very skilled (22%), four-in-ten are fairly skilled (43%), and one-third are not very or not at all skilled (34%). Not surprisingly, men, younger adults, households with higher income, and those who have attained higher levels of education view themselves as more knowledgeable about technology, but the gap with other segments is not significant.

Google, léviathan des recherches web, propose un nouvel outil: les engins de recherche personnalisés Google Co-op. Cet outil permet de préciser quelles pages doivent uniquement figurer dans les résultats des recherches.

Nous avons ajouté un tel engin à CultureLibre.ca, constatez-le dans la barre de navigation de droite du site. Par ailleurs, l’engin de recherche CultureLibre.ca est disponible directement du site Google Co-op.

L’International Intellectual Property Alliance, un regroupement d’associations industrielles américaines, vient de livrer son rapport annuel à l’Office of the Trade Representative des USA, une sorte de ministère des affaires commerciales internationales du pays de l’Oncle Sam. Ce rapport indique les pays à surveiller, particulièrement en ce qui concerne le piratage de contenu culturel.

Il appert que l’IIPA recommende que le Canada soit ajouté à la liste de pays « prioritaires à surveiller ». Selon le site de Dr Michael Geist, le rapport sera disponible en Avril 2007.

La National Information Standards Organization (USA) a lancé un chantier afin d’établir des ponts de communication entre les éditeurs et les bibliothécaires pour standardiser le texte des contrats de licence d’accès aux banques de données numériques. Intitulé License Expression Working Group, ce groupe propose de bâtir sur le travail du Electronic Resource Management Initiative de la Digital Library Initiative.

Le Caucus national des 2e et 3e cycles de la Fédération canadienne des étudiantes et étudiants a invité Olivier Charbonneau de CultureLibre.ca pour prononcer un discours (en anglais) concernant la commercialisation de la propriété intellectuelle à Montréal, le 16 février 2007.
